NickOP is the services registration bot, which permits users to register their nicks, and keep that nick, exclusively for them. If you find others are using your registered nickname, you may use the Kill command, which ensures that your nickname is then available for your use.

You are only permitted to register 4 nicks per person. Additional nickname registrations may result in your nicks being ignored or nicks being deleted by a member of ASD.

ASD will award disputed nicknames to the user who originally registered the nick, not the person who also has the password and identifies as it.

For further details concerning the ability to register your nickname, /msg nickop help register.

!!Important!! Nicknames expire after not being identified for three weeks.

Further information about NickOP, can be found by using the /msg NickOP help command.

Command Drop

Use this command if you want to give up any ownership of your currently used nickname. When your nickname has been dropped, all records of registration are dropped. It then becomes available for anyone to register. Do not drop your nickname if you do not want others to use it.

!!Important!! ASD can not take the nickname off someone else who has registered and give it back to you, if you dropped it off your own accord. If your nickname has been stolen and dropped, you need to speak to an ASD Operator for assistance.

Syntax : DROP
Examples: /msg nickop DROP password

Command Host

This command is used to maintain your access list which services recognises you from. The main uses of this list is to avoid a forced nick change when the option is turned on if you haven`t yet identified; to get AutoOped in channels based on hostmask; to set up nickname linking, and for other things like locating protect matches, ban checks etc.

(Will add *!myother@shell.com.au to hostlist)

Command Register

You need to think of a unique password that no one will guess when you register your nick. It is very important you remember the following:

• Do not share your nickname password with anyone
• Do not share your nickname with other users.

The password needs to be a mixture of letter and number combinations It needs to be between 6-10 characters and can be comprised of a combination of letters (upper/lower case are seen as different), numbers and /or valid characters such as: !@#$%^&*()_+|-=\?,./

Please be sure you will REMEMBER your password. If you do write it down, keep it in a SECURE and SECRET location. If you forget your password, you should have used a real email address too. We do not use or sell your email address to any 3rd party providers. It is secure.

Command Link

This command is useful for those who have several registered nicks and these nicks have access on other channels. If you add nicks to your link nick, the moment you identify, any nicks in your link list are also automatically identified. This will mean if you are an owner on another channel with a different nick, you will get access to that channel.

!!Important!! Each nickname you are linking, you need to ensure you have a matching host, so before linking, firstly use the HOST ADD command for every nickname. This will ensure you do not get the “not configured” error message.

If another user is linked to your nickname, and you are worried if they can drop your channel, it can`t happen. NickOP recognises that it is a linked nickname.

Syntax: LINK LIST | ADD | DEL | REMOVE nick nickpassword

( Will list all your current linked nicks)

(Will delete freakout from link list)

/msg nickop LINK ADD freakout zenpword
(Will add freakout to my linklist if password matches)

/msg nickop LINK REMOVE freakout
(Would remove my nick from freakout’s link nick list).

When linking, change to nickname1, type the command to link with nickname1`s password, then change to nickname2, type the command to link with nickname2`s password.
